SelectCBD review

Offering 100% pure and natural plant-based benefits, SelectCBD upholds its promise to provide high-quality products and ensures transparency through its third-party lab testing.

SelectCBD’s operations are regulated by the State of Oregon, working under the license by the state’s Department of Agriculture.

Operating by the laws of the land and maintenance of high standards have garnered SelectCBD some well-acclaimed awards in the industry.

While its vape pens are the most popular products, they also offer a wide range of tinctures, topicals and soft gel capsules to cater to all kinds of CBD users.

Entering the industry by bringing CBD into the vape world, SelectCBD is today one of the best CBD companies in the US, as well as the rest of the world.

SelectCBD as a Brand

Having been featured in big publications, like the Forbes, New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Allure, SelectCBD has come to be known among CBD users as a trusted name.

This Oregon-based brand, which was awarded Leafly’s Best High CBD Product, is most popular for its vape products, especially their vape pens. The company claims that this product has made the brand No.1 brand in Oregon, California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Their pure CBD isolates garnered enough votes for them to bag the “2017 Dope Industry Award for Best Concentrate Company”.

Their work culture too was recognized by the Oregon Business Magazine when it selected SelectCBD among the “2018 Top 100 Companies to Work For in Oregon”.

As far as its products are concerned, SelectCBD stands by its promise to provide the natural benefits of cannabis plants to one and all without the undesirable effects of any psychoactive agents (like Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, another component of cannabis).

The brand works with different blends of hemp extracts, incorporated with naturally derived essential oils for a more holistic benefit of both the body and mind. Most of their products are aimed at promoting relaxation, rejuvenation and/or attention. They provide both flavored and unflavored products, which are suitable for both first-timers as well as regular users.

Founded by Cameron Forni, along with a team of only 15 people, in 2015, the company today employs over 350 people.

Apart from their vape products, the brand also produces tinctures, soft gel caps, topicals and pet products. A segment of their capsule-filled CBD products, known as Montel by Select, after TV personality Montel Williams, is created from the most effective strains of cannabis to provide users with CBD of utmost premium quality.

Produced with the safest technology available in the market, their products are free from pesticides and solvents, perfectly blended to be consistently effective, while matching the high standards of third-party lab testing.

However, the flip-side is that the Certificates of Analysis of the third-party lab testing isn’t available on their website. You would need to buy a product to find out if it matches the quality benchmarks through the Lab ID and Lot ID printed on the label.

Another specialty of their line of products is the disposable vape pens (also available in different flavors), which we will get into in more details in our product review section.

Through its parent company, Cura Cannabis, SelectCBD is affiliated with four distinguished organizations of this industry. They are:

  • California Cannabis Industry Association
  • Oregon Cannabis Association
  • National Cannabis Industry Association
  • New Federalism Fund

These affiliations, besides their numerous accolades, provide a sense of trust, reliability, and transparency for the users, as well as ensure compliance with industry standards.

The SelectCBD vape pens and drops (tinctures) contain CBD oil, MCT coconut oil, and essential oils (for flavor), while their caps contain different kinds herbal extracts and gelatin, besides pure CBD isolates and MCT oil.

The essential oils are sourced from local farms in Oregon that meet SelectCBD’s quality standards. The use of MCT oil in place of any other thinning agent, like Polyethylene glycol (PEG) 400 and propylene glycol (PG), which produce high amounts of formaldehyde, makes these products safer for human consumption as well as doesn’t leave a foul taste in the mouth.

The Montel by Select line of capsules also contain terpenes for a more enhanced and synergistic effect. Their topical products contain a wider variety of herbal extracts, like Aloe, Vitamin E, Tea Tree oil, Menthol, to give your skin a smoother, cooler and more effective relief.

Their Pets Peanut Butter Drops are quite safe, as they don’t contain any peanut extract. Instead, they are created with a proprietary blend of herbs that offers the flavor.

Drug Test

Most of their products are made from CBD isolates. But, even if you’re using their low-THC or zero-THC products, you should be aware that they may still trigger a false positive.

SelectCBD also offers some products that may contain THC above the permitted 0.3% level. So users should be cautious while undergoing drug tests.

Official Company Name

The brand – SelectCBD – is owned by Cura Cannabis, which one of the biggest cannabis oil companies in California and Oregon. The brand runs its operations from Portland, Oregon.

Apart from SelectCBD, Cura also owns another line of products under the brand name – Select Oil – which offers cannabis oil with THC.

In May 2019, a renowned Massachusetts-based cannabis company, Curaleaf Holdings, acquired Cura Cannabis for almost $1 billion, giving the company access to markets on both the west and east coasts.

However, the SelectCBD brand was not part of the acquisition, as Curaleaf already has its own line of CBD products. However, Cura Cannabis Founder and CEO, Cameron Forni, is now the President of the Select line of products at Curaleaf, while Angelo Lombardi, the current Cura COO, is now also the President of Select CBD.

 SelectCBD Product Reviews

It was easy to shop on their website, which is pretty easy to navigate, even in the mobile version. Although getting a product tested can often take quite a bit of time, their homegrown, hemp-derived products are truly of high quality and safe.

Flavored with essential oils, their products offer a wholesome experience.

Apart from the usual products, their pet products are quite pet-friendly indeed! They come in some interesting flavors, like salmon, chicken, bacon, and peanut butter.

The brand also offers special discounts for military veterans and free shipping for orders worth over $100.

SelectCBD Vape Pens

The vape pens are a bit on the high end, but totally worth the price! With a range of amazing flavors, these products are the jewel of SelectCBD.

Made with a unique blend of CBD oil, fractionated coconut oil, essential oils (for flavor), like lavender, grapefruit, spearmint, cinnamon, spearmint, or lemon, they are effective in relaxing, revitalizing or promoting focus.

For more details, check out their ‘Vape Pens’ page.

Ways of Consumption

SelectCBD’s vape pens are used in the same way as any other vape pen – inhalation of heated e-liquid. The vape pen comes with prefilled cartridges of CBD oil, mixed in a blend of MCT oil and cold-pressed essential oils.

The brand uses unbleached, organic, Japanese cotton wicks in their vape pens, which not only makes its vape pens safe but also maintains the overall quality of the product.

Since the wicks come in direct contact with the e-liquid, the wicks need to be of good quality too. Cotton wicks ensure a neutral taste, and the fact that they are not bleached or dyed makes the end experience enjoyable and healthy too.

Since SelectCBD’s vape pens are disposable, the producers prefill them in the exact dosage for the users’ convenience. Use of ceramic-core cartridges also adds to the experience by consistently maintaining the temperature. The vaporizers are compact, easy to use, and easy to carry around anywhere you go.

Their vape pens offer 1-2 mg of CBD per 3-second puff, i.e. a single serving. So, you can calculate the number of puffs needed for you to get the optimum effect, as per the total CBD (in mg) required by you.

A regular CBD user generally needs to take a few puffs every 2 – 3 hours. The ideal per-day dosage is 30mg. However, if you’re taking the ‘focus’ and ‘revive’ variants, a little less can be quite adequate.

Each disposable vaporizer pen contains approximately 150 servings.

Whether you want to relax (lavender or cinnamon), focus (spearmint or peppermint), or feel revitalized (lemon or grapefruit), each disposable vape pen (that comes packed with the wick, e-liquid-filled cartridge, and the inhaling pen) contains 250 mg of CBD and is priced at $40. This means the per-mg (CBD) worth of this product is $0.16.

Admittedly, it is a tad bit on the high end. However, my experience with this product was absolutely fantastic – so worth every penny!

My Experience

I used the Lavender variant of SelectCBD’s vaporizer, which is meant to relax you. I only needed it to relax my nerves and muscles after a hard day’s work and to help me sleep better. So I took 4 puffs after I reached home and 4 more before bedtime.

I must say that within seconds of taking my second puff, I could feel my muscles ease out. After 4 puffs, I felt totally relaxed. Since I was off any CBD products for a week before I started using this product, I felt the difference quite instantly. My back and neck that usually pose problems for me all day long felt good as new; like I never had any pain.

Even the itch and callous on my elbows caused due to working on a workplace table (that holds my desktop and all kinds of food items through the day) seemed to fade after using this product for a couple of days.

Besides, the smell is simply awesome. The lavender essential oil used in this product also helped ease my mind and nape muscles – a truly great aromatherapy experience as well!

Compared to other brands of vape pens, this vaporizer gave me one of the best experiences.

The best part about this vape pen is that it is disposable after use. However, it is impossible to see how much of the e-liquid is left in the cartridge. The mouthpiece of the vape pen may get a bit warm with continued drags, but never to the point where it is impossible to use.

SelectCBD Drops (Tinctures)

Their CBD drops (tinctures) are almost as good as their vaporizers.

Available in 4 different flavors – Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon Ginger and Unflavored – SelectCBD’s “CBD Drops” are available in one concentration, i.e., 1000mg. Each 30 ml bottle of pure CBD isolate extract comes equipped with a dropper for the exact dosage of 1ml.

These hemp-derived CBD extracts come with a blend of fractionated coconut oil (MCT), stevia, essential oils, and other herbal extracts.

The essential oils and herbs, which are sourced from local Oregon farms, are chosen according to the intended effect – relax (lavender flavor), boosting energy (peppermint), or revitalize (lemon ginger). Stevia, a natural sweetener, is present only in the flavored variants.

Ways of Consumption

SelectCBD’s tinctures are used in the same way as any other tincture – under the tongue, i.e., sublingually. Alternatively, you can also add this to cold food items or beverages. There is no fear of getting high with SelectCBD’s tinctures as they are zero-THC cannabis oils.

Each dropper (serving size) contains 33.33mg of CBD, just right for a regular user.

Use the lavender or the unflavored variants to relax, relieve stress and induce sleep. They are best suited for later in the day and before bedtime. The lemon ginger and peppermint flavors are good for making you feel fresh and energized. So you can use them in the morning or through the day to feel revitalized and pepped up all day long.

Since these tinctures are made from CBD isolates, don’t expect the effects to be as quick or as strong as full-spectrum ones.

Irrespective of the flavor, the CBD Drops by SelectCBD contain 30ml of CBD oil, having a total strength of 1000mg, and are all priced at $65, i.e., $0.065/mg.

It is definitely cheaper than vaporizers. In fact, SelectCBD’s tinctures are among the most budget-friendly CBD tinctures on the market.

My Experience

This product was almost as good as the brand’s vaporizer. However, since it is a tincture, it took a while longer to take effect – around 30 minutes – just as the brand’s label claimed.

I tried out two of the variants – Lemon Ginger and Unflavored.

Given that I had not used any CBD product for more than a week before trying out this product, I needed to use it every 4-5 hours.  Admittedly, it took a while for its effects to kick in, but when it did, I felt very good. I got the exact effect I was expecting.

With the unflavored tincture, which was truly flavorless, i.e. no hempy taste, I felt my anxiety and stress from the daily grind fade away and made it easier for me to sleep. It also helped with easing my tensed muscles.

The lemon ginger variant, which I used in the mornings, kept me fresh and going without feeling tired at all. I used these products for a week or so and felt they were way more than what I signed up for.

Seeing the results I got from these two variants, I am sure the lavender and peppermint variants would be even better!

SelectCBD Muscle Rub (Topicals)

SelectCBD has two types of topicals – the CBD Muscle Rub (250 mg) and the CBD-Infused Patches (20 mg and 60mg).

I tried out the CBD Muscle Rub, as it was competitively priced, and reviewed as a “fantastic muscle relaxant with a cooling effect” and felt smooth like a “luxury cream”.

I struggle with severe back pain. So, this was an obvious choice!

Made with 100% natural ingredients, like Arnica Montana flower extract, natural menthol, Ilex Paraguariensis leaf extract, Aloe Barbadensis leaf extract, and Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) leaf oil, this product seems to be quite popular too.

Ways of Consumption

You can apply the cream gently on the skin over the affected areas – inflamed, sore or painful muscles or skin conditions, irritation from bug bites, etc.

Although the concentration of CBD in this product is quite low, i.e. 250mg (for a 3-ounce tube), it is good enough for application after a workout or before bedtime. You can use it as per need. But make sure to cover the skin over the affected area completely for the cream to have adequate efficacy.

The price of a tube of Muscle Rub that contains 250mg of CBD is $35, i.e. $0.14/mg.

My Experience

The Muscle Rub is a highly concentrated, yet thin, easily absorbed topical cream that works wonders on painful and sore muscles or irritated skin.

I used this product after the usual week-long gap from CBD products and found it to be the best so far. It took less than 10 minutes for the pain in my lower back to subside and the inflammation to ease. It worked great with a hot compression too!

I can say their claims of using natural herbal extracts like Arnica extract, menthol, and tea tree and yerba mate leaf extracts are genuine. You wouldn’t need to even look at their CoAs once you use this product.

After a couple of days of use, I realized that my muscles weren’t as sore or aching; almost felt like I was young again!

FAQs About Select CBD

Q: Can SelectCBD’s products get a person “high”?

A: SelectCBD’s products do not contain enough THC to get you high.

They usually keep the THC levels within the permissible limit of 0.03% (by weight). Their CBD isolate products, like the tinctures, contain nothing except CBD. So, there is no fear of experiencing euphoria from use of their products.

Besides, the third-party lab tests ensure that their products that hit the shelves do not contain enough THC to make you “high”.

Q: Are any of the ingredients of SelectCBD’s products potential allergens?

A: No. Neither you nor your pets will experience an allergic reaction from using SelectCBD’s products. The ingredients are essentially natural, plant-based extracts, sourced from local Oregon farms.

The usual natural chemicals that make people allergic aren’t contained in these products. Even the peanut butter variant of pet tincture doesn’t contain any peanut butter. They are simply flavors designed from a concoction of herbal extracts that don’t have an allergic reaction among humans or animals.

Besides, the extraction method also ensures that no residual solvents remain in the end product, making them safe and effective.

Q: What is the extraction process of SelectCBD products?

A: SelectCBD employs the CO2 method to extract the cannabinoids from naturally grown hemp. This makes sure the product you buy is absolutely pure and potent.

During the isolation (CBD) process, they use food-grade ethanol, instead of butane or the like. So, there is no need to winterize their products.

They do not use any PG, VF, glycerin, glycol, or any artificial additives. They also do not use any artificial coloring or flavoring. All flavors are acquired from the essential oils, derived from herbs that are naturally sourced from local farms.

SelectCBD products are tested by third-party labs, the results of which are available on demand.

Q: How to check the veracity of Select CBD’s claims?

A: You can definitely check the veracity of the company’s claims, as all their products are tested by third-party laboratories. Their results, or Certificates of Analysis (CoAs), are available for public viewing, however, only on making a purchase and requesting for it with the help of the Lab ID and Lot ID printed on the label of the product.

A user may sometimes find the process lengthy and time-taking. However, they do get back with the CoA of the specific product.

Q: Are SelectCBD’s products made from pure CBD?

A: They follow a very clean process of extraction and isolation. Their products are devoid of any solvents and are very potent.

There is no question about the purity and quality of their products.

[Also check: What is the extraction process of SelectCBD products?]

Q: Can SelectCBD products make a person fail a drug test?

A: The usual urine drug screen, meant to look for THC-COOH, does not react to non-psychoactive cannabinoids, like CBD. However, one must be wary of false positives, which too occur.

If you are concerned about such cases, use their tinctures, which though slow on the uptake, are completely devoid of any component of cannabis other than CBD.

Q: Is there an expiration date for SelectCBD’s products?

A: SelectCBD recommends using its products within 2 years from the manufacturing date. Even though these products won’t have any negative impact after those 2 years have passed, they may, however, lose their efficacy.

To get the most of those 2 years, products must be kept in an upright position and a cool and dry environment.

Q: Can the vape pens and tincture bottles be recycled?

A: No recycling process is available for the vape pens and tincture bottles are currently available for their products. The vape pens are disposable and the bottles cannot be reused either.

However, the company is in the process of setting up a recycling program with the dispensaries in Oregon. Once that is in place, users can drop off their empty containers at any of the local dispensaries.

Q: Can SelectCBD Patches be reused or used with short breaks?

A: The pharmaceutical-grade adhesives used for transdermal delivery cannot withstand the wear and tear of repeated use. Once a patch is removed before 24 hours have passed, the remaining CBD dose cannot be utilized – just like a band-aid.

However, a patch can be cut into half or as many pieces required. This will distribute the dose in approximately the proportion in which it is cut.

Q: Can I sell SelectCBD products directly?

You can sell SelectCBD products both personally and out of your shop or dispensary.

If you own a store or dispensary, you can contact the team at The company will get you in touch with a local sales rep to help you sell your products from your shop.

Parting Thoughts

Overall, SelectCBD is an established and a renowned brand, with user-base spread all over California, Arizona, and Nevada, besides their home state, Oregon.

Endowed with positive reviews from satisfied customers and numerous accolades from reputed establishments, SelectCBD has become a trusted brand in the CBD industry within a matter of four years.

They provide high-quality, potent products that not only meet the safety and purity standards but also reach you quickly. The customer reviews on their site look genuine and generally positive.

SelectCBD’s drops are effective and budget-friendly. Their disposable vape pens may seem a bit costly, but they’re really quite cost-effective. However, their CBD patches, though convenient to use, are a bit on the higher end.
